  • Post category:Sports

An official of the Confederation of African Football has died after Ghana’s World Cup playoff game against Nigeria on Tuesday, 29 March 2022.

Dr Joseph Kabungo, a Zambian medical practitioner, is reported to have lost consciousness following the disturbances by Nigerian supporters after the Black Stars qualified for the World Cup ahead of the Super Eagles on their home soil.

The Nigerian supporters stormed the pitch and destroyed everything in their way.

The disturbances caused the security to fire teargas to disperse them.

It is alleged that Dr Kabungo was beaten and trampled as fans stampeded their way out of the stadium.

Dr Kabungo was CAF’s designated Doping Officer for the game between Ghana and Nigeria.

His death was confirmed at the hospital.
