Kumasi Robbery Syndicate Dismantled: Six Arrested

By Godwin Owusu Frimpong

Six individuals, five Nigerian and one Ghanaian, have been apprehended in Kumasi, in connection with a month-long string of robberies targeting bank customers. The group allegedly trailed victims who had withdrawn significant sums of money, subsequently breaking into their vehicles to steal the cash.

The arrests were the result of a coordinated police operation, utilizing intelligence and surveillance footage. The suspects were identified using two Toyota Highlanders, one gold and one black, both equipped with counterfeit license plates.

During interrogation, the arrested individuals reportedly confessed to involvement in multiple robberies across various locations in Kumasi, including areas near Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Mayanka, Asokwa, the Kumasi Central Mosque, ShopRite, and the Georgia Hotel. They also implicated several other accomplices within a larger criminal network.

One key suspect, Cosmas Maduabuchukwu, sustained gunshot wounds during an attempted arrest but managed to escape. Police have initiated a manhunt for Maduabuchukwu and other fugitives associated with the syndicate.

The seized vehicles are currently in police custody. The arrested suspects have been remanded as investigations continue. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring community safety and bringing all offenders to justice.
