In the most anticipated fixture of the Ghana Premier League season, Kumasi Asante Kotoko delivered a blunt, 1-0 lesson to their arch-rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, shattering the Phobians’ unbeaten record and reaffirming the hierarchy of the nation’s greatest football rivalry.

The decisive moment in the ‘Super Clash’ came on the stroke of half-time when forward Donzo Morifing converted a penalty—his debut goal for the Porcupine Warriors. While the scoreline suggested fine margins, the performance affirmed Kotoko’s superiority throughout the intense encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Prior to kickoff, both giants entered the fray without a loss. However, from the opening minutes, it was Kotoko who looked the hungrier, continually pressing the home side, forcing goalkeeper Benjamin Asare into early action.

Despite the injection of verve from Hearts substitutions in the second half, Kotoko’s defence remained resolute, absorbing all the Phobians’ best attempts at an equalizer. Even a spectacular late goal by Hearts substitute Mawuli Wayo was correctly ruled out for offside, compounding the sense of futility for the home support.

This victory ensures that while Hearts of Oak may attempt to challenge for top honours, their current standard simply does not appear to be a serious threat to the clinical efficiency displayed by the Red Army of Kumasi. Kotoko didn’t just win; they proved, emphatically, that they are the benchmark to which Accra’s Phobians currently have no response.
