Abuakwa Isolated After Bridge Disaster

By Godwin Owusu Frimpong

Abuakwa-DKC residents are now stranded, desperate, and worried. Recent heavy rains caused significant damage to the bridge connecting Abuakwa DKC to Abuakwa Township in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of the Ashanti Region. Though built in 2024, the bridge is now dangerous, forcing residents, students included, to wade through the Asuoyeboah River.

The bridge’s collapse has created unbearable living conditions. Residents, feeling abandoned by the government, voice their concerns and fears, particularly for students’ safety. One junior high student, Emmanuel Owusu, nearly drowned trying to cross last week. Kofi Broni, a local resident, voiced his worry. Residents implore authorities to intervene and fix the bridge to avert further disasters.

The Atwima Nwabigya Municipal Assembly assures that bridge repairs are coming to restore safe passage. However, with half of the main concrete bridge now a “death trap”, residents feel neglected. This situation requires urgent government intervention to protect lives and livelihoods and prevent further disruptions. They hope for immediate action.
