Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) has endorsed demands for the Ghanaian government to reconsider the Free Senior High School (SHS) possibly cancelling it.
Some people want the government to reconsider Free SHS and scrap some of the policy components proposed by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Analysts recommend that the government get an impartial evaluation of the policy’s effectiveness since its inception in 2017 before making any modifications.
According to Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), parents should be accountable for their children.
In his opinion, Ghana has not reached the stage when the state must pay for residents’ needs, particularly school tuition.
“When Lee mentioned how unsustainable FREE SHS is, several laughed!
Now folks are smelling coffee. Jacob’s sleepy sons Everyman is accountable to his kids. Who begs for weapons and then flies first class? It’s great that the state educates our kids, but we’re not there yet. “We profess to be middle-class, yet look at us,” he said on Facebook.
In these difficult circumstances, MP for Akyem Swedru Kennedy Osei Nyarko said he would encourage the government to stop Free SHS, NABCO, etc.
He claims that the funds spent in these programs may be used to create additional revenue for the government.
As a result, he says, the government must halt the programs and reinvest the funds in agriculture.
The President feels the Free SHS will be his legacy once he leaves office in 2025.
The policy was designed to enable Ghanaians of school age to complete Senior High School and become employed.
