Students at Adanse Fumso Islamic Basic School in Adanse Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region are being forced to sit on the bare floor during lessons, enduring a critical lack of furniture and learning within a dilapidated structure. Parents have voiced serious concerns that the building’s precarious state could lead to its collapse, endangering the pupils.

A recent visit to the school revealed dozens of students conducting their studies on the ground due to the complete absence of appropriate seating. Beyond fundamental furniture, the school also suffers from a severe deficit of basic infrastructure; many students, for instance, have never encountered a functioning computer.

Headmistress Alimatu Seidu explained that the dire state of infrastructure actively discourages students from attending. “The structure is now a death trap for students, causing fear and panic anytime there’s a rainstorm,” Ms Seidu stated, highlighting the constant anxiety faced by the school community. “We have basically nothing, including washrooms, furniture, and other materials needed for proper teaching.”

Despite inspections by Non-Governmental Organisations and officials from the District Assembly, the school has yet to receive any substantial support. The Headmistress has issued an urgent appeal for intervention to provide the necessary infrastructure and learning materials, essential for ensuring a safe and conducive educational environment for her students.
