  • Post category:National

A former Inspector General of Police David Asante Apeatu has discontinued suit against a Presenter of Net 2 Television, a subsidiary of Kencity Media Limited, Justice Kweku Annan.

According to the notice of discontinuance, the plaintiff took this action with liberty.

Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, in July this year, sued Net-2 TV presenter, Justice Kweku Annan for defamation.

The defendant is the host of the TV station’s popular talk show known as ‘The Seat’.

Mr. Kweku Annan was alleged to have stated on the June 16, 2021, edition of his show that, the former IGP is a defense for legendary Ghanaian and Nigerian criminals and shelters them.

Additionally, the presenter alleged that Mr. Asante-Apeatu is on the payroll of top criminals in Ghana, and had refused to cause the arrest and prosecution of same.

He further accused the former IGP of working in collusion with hardened foreign criminals to terrorize Ghanaians.

But Mr.Asante-Appeatu in his writ averred that the accusations were figments of the defendant’s imagination and completely false.

According to the former IGP, the allegations by the presenter were maliciously calculated to damage his reputation and cause him public disaffection.

However, according to the notice of discontinuance, the plaintiff has taken this action with liberty.
