Two men have been arrested by the Police following a dramatic pursuit linked to a major robbery and carjacking incident in the Ashanti Region.
The arrests relate to an armed robbery that took place in Mpatasie, near St. Anthony Hospital, where victims were robbed of a vehicle and significant sums of cash.
The two individuals, identified as Issaka Jamal, aged 30, and Kwadwo Badu, aged 40, were apprehended on Saturday (8 November 2025) after officers intercepted them on the Ofankor–St. John’s stretch of the main Accra–Nsawam Highway.
Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the Public Relations Officer for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), confirmed the details of the operation, noting that both men were injured during their attempted flight.
“The suspects attempted to flee from the police,” Chief Inspector Babanawo stated. “One sustained a gunshot wound, and the other suffered minor injuries. Both are currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.”
The Original Robbery
The initial incident occurred on November 7, 2025. It is alleged that the suspects and their accomplices attacked two occupants of an unregistered silver Hyundai Tucson (bearing the number DV-5357-Z).
The perpetrators stole approximately GH¢120,000 (Ghanaian Cedis), three mobile phones, identification cards, various work tools, and other personal belongings before fleeing the scene in the victims’ vehicle.
Recovered Exhibits
The subsequent police operation was instrumental in recovering key evidence related to the crime.
“The operation led directly to the recovery of the stolen Hyundai Tucson,” Chief Inspector Babanawo explained. “Officers also secured GH¢5,900 in physical cash, a customised number plate marked ‘Congo-1-24,’ and a number of other identified exhibits.”
All recovered items have since been secured at the Police Headquarters as the investigation continues. The authorities have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the remaining accomplices implicated in the attack.
