Rebecca Akufo-Addo: Motherhood is the most important job on earth

The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has commended mothers for the unique role they play in nation building as Ghana joins the rest of the world to commemorate Mother’s Day today 9 May 2021.

She has described motherhood as not only a tough job but the most important job on earth.

Akufo-Addo has therefore called on gender-based civil society groups and corporate institutions to find innovative ways of putting a smile on the faces of less unfortunate mothers in the country.

“On a day like this, I urge society, especially those of us who can afford it, as well as gender-based civil society organisations and corporate institutions not to limit our celebration of this important day to making merry in our homes or in small groups,” she posted on Facebook.

She added: “Rather I urge you also to identify creative ways by which we can assist less fortunate mothers. Assist single mothers, widows, teenage mothers and all who need your assistance to help build a nation of knowledge-filled, respectful, patriotic, hardworking, ambitious and God-fearing people.”
