A 9-year-old girl has been electrocuted to death at Bantama after inserting a spoon in an extension board.

It is believed she mistakenly inserted the spoon into an extension board which was being used for other purposes. The mother of the girl, Victoria Akosua Ntim, known at Bantama PEC area as Ante Akosua said, she was having difficulty connecting her rice cooker to her kitchen plug and her husband, Mr Richmond Ntim suggested she used their television set extension board to plug the cooker.

“My husband said I could use the extension board if the kitchen plug isn’t  working”. “My daughter was watching cartoons when I went to switch off the television. I told her I will switch back the television for her when I was done using the extension board”.

“She was playing with the spoon. She might have gotten bored without her favorite cartoons and that might have forced her into playing with the extension board. I heard her hitting the spoon on the floor. It was noisy so I told her to stop. She directed the sound from the floor to the extension board”, she noted.

According to her, she went to check what it was, and her 9-year-old daughter was shaking in front of the extension board. The girl had been electrocuted after she forced a tablespoon into the socket of the extension board. Mr Ntim, the father of the girl, suffered electrical shocks when he tried to save his daughter.

His hands, shoulders and part of his face, were paralysed when he tried using his bare hands to snatch his daughter from the electrocuted spoon. Mr Ntim together with the 9-year-old girl was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital but the girl could not survive and died this morning.

The incident which happened this morning has puzzled Ante Akosua as she cries over her daughter’s death and prays for her husband’s recovery. Doctors at Komfo Anokye believe Mr Ntim will recover but couldn’t state whether his paralysed hands and shoulders will be ok or will be affected by stroke.
