The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has demolished structures at the popular Adum PZ market, a prominent hub for mobile phone vendors, in response to a surge in public complaints regarding widespread theft.

The market had garnered a reputation for illicit phone transactions and frequent mobile phone theft, prompting numerous calls for intervention from concerned citizens and social media users.

Henrietta Afua Konadu Aboagye, the Public Relations Officer for the KMA, confirmed that the decision to proceed with the demolition was informed by a consistent pattern of reported mobile phone theft in the area. She cited a recent incident, explaining that “a young girl who went to buy a phone at the area was duped by some phone sellers, causing a major problem there.”

The KMA official underscored the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the public, stating that all necessary measures would be taken to protect residents from activities that compromise their security and economic well-being.

This decisive action forms part of the KMA’s broader initiative to uphold law and order within the metropolis, striving to foster a secure and safe environment for both its inhabitants and visitors alike.
