A two‑day workshop on digital content creation and mini‑video blogging was held in Takoradi, Ghana, focusing on the free movement of people and migration across West Africa.
Organised by Media Response (Ghana) and co‑funded by the European Union and the ECOWAS Commission, the event gathered journalists, reporters, bloggers and communication officers from the region. Under the theme “Reframing narratives on free movement of persons and migration in West Africa”, participants received training in ethical journalism, practical digital‑media skills and the use of social‑media platforms to foster informed public debate.
Speakers highlighted the ECOWAS Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, Right of Residence and Establishment as the legal cornerstone for cross‑border mobility and regional cooperation. However, they noted that public discussion is often distorted by misinformation, sensationalism and entrenched stereotypes.
Samuel Doodo, Project Manager for Media Response (Ghana), stressed that equipping media professionals with accurate knowledge and modern storytelling tools would promote balanced coverage of migration trends and clarify the rights and responsibilities of ECOWAS citizens travelling within the bloc.
The workshop aims to improve the quality of migration reporting, thereby supporting greater regional integration and public understanding across West Africa.
